How Many SmartPoints Does Chicken Have?

According to Weight Watchers, skinless chicken breast and eggs now belong to ZeroPoint foods in the Blue and Purple plans. How amazing is that! This just means that you’ll get to enjoy more chicken slow cooker recipes without worrying about eating too many SmartPoints!

Well, this is not exactly surprising since chicken meat has well-documented health benefits. It is also known as a wonderful substitute for red meat.

Chicken is an excellent source of protein, amino acids, vitamin B12, choline, zinc, iron, tryptophan, and a lot more! But aside from being a real healthy food, we also know how delicious it can be when slow-cooked!

How Long Should You Cook Weight Watchers Chicken Slow Cooker Recipes?

There’s no doubt that there’s a great deal of Weight Watchers chicken slow cooker recipes you can find online, but before anything else, the real question is, how long should chicken cook in the slow cooker?

Many weight watchers, mothers, and even me have experienced the same dilemma — slow-cooked dry chicken. Hence, I decided to do some research, and I was shocked to find the answers!

Boneless and skinless chicken breast on a medium serving only needs 2.5-3.5 hours on LOW for it to be fully cooked in the slow cooker. While cooking larger recipes should only take 4-6 hours cooking. I hate to break this to you but do not ever cook boneless and skinless chicken breast on HIGH unless you want to have a dry and overcooked chicken for dinner.

FAQs

Why is my chicken rubbery after crockpot? ›

Aside from accidentally overcooking the meals, the most common reason we see for tough, rubbery, or overdone chicken is customers using a Crockpot that is far too big.

Why do you brown chicken before putting in slow cooker? ›

Sear the Chicken Before Adding It to the Slow Cooker

A caramelized piece of meat will always taste better in your dish.

How to make chicken not dry in a slow cooker? ›

Using a nice, long, low-and-slow cook time helps chicken breasts retain plenty of moisture - but you can certainly opt to add a splash of water or chicken stock to the crockpot if you like! If you're worried about dry chicken, you can also swap boneless skinless chicken thighs in for a bit of extra moisture.

Is rotisserie chicken zero points on Weight Watchers? ›

If I remove the skin from rotisserie chicken breast, is it a ZeroPoint food? Yes, as long as you're eating just the breast meat.

Is it better to cook chicken on high or low in the crockpot? ›

Always cook your boneless skinless chicken breasts on LOW for the best results. I do not recommend cooking boneless chicken breast on HIGH, as it will become very dry and tough, even if you check it early. On high, the chicken turns out drier; I consistently have the best results with low.

Does chicken get more tender the longer you slow cook it? ›

Yes, chicken breast will become softer and more tender the longer it is cooked, provided it is cooked at a low enough temperature. If it is cooked at too high of a temperature, the chicken breast will become dry and tough.

Is it okay to put raw chicken in a slow cooker? ›

Yes, you can put raw chicken in a slow cooker! Slow cookers and Crock-Pots are designed to cook raw meats. The direct heat from the pot, lengthy cooking time and steam created from the tightly covered container destroys bacteria, making slow cooking safe. You can put frozen chicken in a slow cooker, too!

Do you need to put liquid in the slow cooker when cooking chicken? ›

Chicken stock, low-sodium chicken broth, or water: I prefer chicken stock or low-sodium chicken broth if I have it on hand because it adds a little more flavor, but water works equally well. Adding some liquid to the slow cooker is an essential step, and ensures that the chicken is tender and juicy.

Should you rinse chicken before putting in crockpot? ›

However, washing raw poultry, beef, pork, lamb or veal before cooking it is not recommended. Bacteria in raw meat and poultry juices can be spread to other foods, utensils and surfaces. We call this cross-contamination.

How to keep chicken moist in a crockpot? ›

By regularly spooning the juices over the chicken, you are essentially marinating it in its own flavorful liquid, which helps to retain moisture and enhance the taste. This method also helps to prevent the chicken from drying out as it slow cooks over a longer period of time.

How long can you leave chicken in the crockpot on low? ›

Cover your slow cooker and cook chicken breasts on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Step 5: check for doneness. Use your meat thermometer to be sure the chicken has reached 165 degrees F. Step 6: let it rest.

Does chicken need to be submerged in slow cooker? ›

Water or liquid is necessary to create steam. When cooking meat or poultry, the water or liquid level should cover the ingredients to ensure effective heat transfer throughout the crock. Some manufacturers of slow cookers recommend adding liquid to fill the stoneware 1/2 to 3/4 full.

Why are chicken thighs not free on Weight Watchers? ›

Chicken tenderloins are a ZeroPoint food since they are actually the leanest part of the chicken breast. Chicken thighs will have a Points value because this dark meat contains a higher amount of fat than the tenderloin or breast. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't eat them!

How many pounds do you lose a week on Weight Watchers? ›

*‎People following the WW program can expect to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Plus, research shows that changing what you eat and increasing physical activity leads to more weight loss than just altering what's on your plate.

What is the best meat for Weight Watchers? ›

Chicken is one of our members' top tracked foods and it's easy to see why—white meat poultry is delicious, satisfying, and has less cholesterol and saturated fat than meats like beef, pork, and lamb.

How do you fix rubbery cooked chicken? ›

Consider simmering the tough chicken in a liquid-based recipe, such as a stew, soup, or curry. Moist heat cooking methods can help break down the fibers in the meat, making it more tender.

Why is my slow-cooked chicken so chewy? ›

Chicken becomes rubbery/chewy when it's overcooked. So in general, including in a slow cooker, don't cook as long. There are lots of recipes online, they can give you a good place to start.

Why is my crockpot roast rubbery? ›

There are several reasons why this could have happened even after so much cooking. First, your choice of a rump roast could be a factor since cuts from the hind quarter are very muscular and, since muscles are the most resistant to breaking, this cut is quite stubborn when it comes to becoming tender.
