Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make these chicken breasts and potatoes in the air fryer:

  • Chicken breasts – Boneless, 7-8 ounces each.
  • Potatoes – For example russet or red potatoes. We like red potatoes since they are a bit firmer and less likely to fall apart, but russet potatoes also work well.
  • Avocado oil – Alternatively, you can use canola oil, light olive oil, or other oils of your choice.
  • Garlic powder – To season the chicken and potatoes.
  • Paprika – To season the chicken and potatoes. You can use regular or smoked paprika – it’s up to you. We recommend adding paprika to the chicken, but you can skip it for the potatoes and add some Italian seasoning.
  • Salt – For added flavor.
  • Black pepper – For added flavor.
  • Parsley (optional) – To garnish the finished dish; adds a pop of color.

Recipe Tips

Before you head for the kitchen to make this air fryer chicken and potatoes recipe, read through these recipe tips so that you don’t have any issues. Combination recipes are awesome but can be a little trickier than just one food item at a time!

  • If you want super juicy chicken breasts, it’s easiest to cook them separately in the air fryer. Here’s the recipe for chicken breast and here’s the recipe for potatoes. Cooking chicken breasts and potatoes together does work, but you need to be more aware of what you’re doing (we’ll share all our tips with you in this recipe!).
  • Don’t cut the potato cubes too big ( we recommend 1/2 to 3/4 inch) otherwise they might not be done cooking when the chicken is done.
  • Don’t overcrowd your air fryer, otherwise, the chicken and potatoes might not cook evenly. If you can’t fit the potatoes into your air fryer in one layer, cook fewer potatoes and only one chicken breast at a time.
  • Cook the chicken breast to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t overcook it as this can make it dry and rubbery.
  • Let the chicken rest after cooking as this allows some of the juices to redistribute throughout the chicken breast.
  • You can change up the spices to suit your preferences (e.g. you could add some Italian seasoning or rosemary to the potatoes). Just keep in mind that the spices used for the chicken breasts and the potatoes will mingle during cooking.

First, wash the potatoes and cut them into 1/2 to 3/4-inch cubes. Don’t cut them any larger, otherwise, they might take too long to cook. Place the cut potato cubes into a bowl.

When the air fryer is hot, add the potatoes first so that they cover the bottom of the air fryer basket evenly. Give them a shake so that they are in one even layer.

Then add the chicken breasts on top. They should not be touching each other.

Overall, don’t overcrowd the air fryer, otherwise, things might not cook evenly.

Air Fryer Chicken Breast and Potatoes - Simply Air Fryer (10)

Air fry the chicken breasts and potatoes at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 19-21 minutes total until fully cooked.

Shake the air fryer basket every 5 minutes. After 10 minutes, move the potatoes to one side of the air fryer basket, flip the chicken breasts over and place them onto the empty half of the air fryer tray.

(Things should have shrunk due to cooking so there should be enough space now).

Then air fry for another 9-11 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked, shaking again at the 15-minute mark.

Once the chicken is done – the internal temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit – remove it from the air fryer and place it on a plate.

Don’t overcook the chicken – this can make it dry.

Cover the plate with tin foil and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, if the potatoes are not done to your liking yet, air fry them for another few minutes while the chicken is resting.

When done, remove the potatoes from the air fryer and assemble your chicken and potato dinner. You can sprinkle the dish with some chopped parsley before serving.

It tastes great with a fresh green side salad. Enjoy!

Storage Tips

Once you’ve made these potatoes and chicken, everything stores nicely in the fridge in a sealed container. Properly stored, they’ll last for 3-4 days.

However, we’d recommend eating the leftovers sooner than later since the potatoes can get soggy and the chicken might dry out slightly over time.

You can reheat the chicken and potatoes in the air fryer at 280 degrees Fahrenheit.

What to Serve Chicken Breast and Potatoes With

While this can be a meal on its own, we like adding either a side salad or some veggies to make the meal more balanced.

  • If you want to add a vegetable to this combo, classic vegetables like broccoli, broccolini, green beans, or even broccoli and cauliflower together!
  • In case you’d prefer a salad, a fresh green salad, cucumber salad or even a Greek salad would work really well.
  • A sauce for dipping can also be a good idea. We like ketchup because it works with both food items but a BBQ sauce or even a buffalo hot sauce can also work!
