Versatile \x26 cheap cheat!

This soup is what you remember from your childhood. So whats not to like. Perfect for a speedy lunch with some toast / crusty bread. However where it comes into its own is a cheap cheat! Whole chicken (2kg approx - £7.50ish) in the casserole (I browned it a bit but really no need - any jelly like skin can be removed later, but its all flavour baby!) Chicken out, put to side. Pack of streaky bacon (£2.55) fried off in chicken fat (you could leave this out but adds to flavour). Then added diced white onion, 2 celery sticks, 2 carrots (call that £1?). 4 cloves of minced garlic. (50p max). Knorr stock pot thingy (30p each). Sprinkling of thyme, rosemary and a couple of bay leaves. Glug of worcestershire, Then 2 tins of cream of chicken soup (£1.30ish for the 2 tins), 1 tin of chopped tomatoes (50p). Water to top up. Added the whole chicken back in. Cooked in the oven, fan 160 lid on, for about 3-4 hours (I won't say how much on electric cost!) Once the chicken was melting off the bone, took it out the pot, stripped the meat, ripped into chunky bits put back into the pot, stirred in along with half a bag of frozen mixed veg (£1). Let that cook off again for 30mins. So that enormous pot for less than £15. Got 7 massive portions (could've stretched it to 8 or 9 easily) We had with mash, then crusty bread another night. Less than £2 per portion all in. OR even easier, fry off some chunky chopped onion and garlic, squish of tomato puree. Pop in some left over chicken, mushrooms if you have any. Add a tin or 2 of soup and some water, heat through add some rice (I used micro bag!) heat through for 20 mins. Serve! Your spoon will stand up in this soup! Fabulous cheat!

The best

If we want a canned chicken soup we always buy Heinz. Delicious creamy soup, not too thick or watery and with little chicken chunks. Perfect for a light lunch

Still as nice as I remember

What is not to like about Heinz chicken soup. Like another reviewer I also remember having this when I was a child and all these years later it’s still as nice as I remember. I always keep some in the cupboard. Handy for hungry kids, handy for when someone needs something light, handy for when you are in a hurry. I hope they always keep making this as it’s just such a good product.

Sometimes only Heinz will do

This is the best chicken soup apart from homemade. Just perfect and hasn’t changed in flavour since I was a child. Perfect
